Converting all Energy inputs to battery energy and having a Isolated Synthetic Sine Supply may be an expensive but good solution. Either way the devices that face the harsh environment have to be over rated along with these protections.

The LM117 series of adjustable 3-terminal positive voltage regulators is capable of supplying in excess of 1.5A over a 1.2V to 37V output range. 

LM317 3-Terminal Adjustable Regulator

Because the regulator is and detects only the input-to-output differential voltage, supplies of several hundred volts can be regulated as long as the maximum input-to-output differential is not exceeded. That is, avoid short-circuiting the output.

This Topsy Turvy or Mirror Design ought to work in Theory. It has worked for some circuits in practice too in my experience. ? 

Some believe that N-Channel is more Robust than the P Type. In Bipolar Transistor NPN is more trusted for the final output stages. The NPN Transistor and N-Channel turn-on by a Positive control bias. It may be inappropriate to say this mosfet is NPN or PNP.

7800 and 7900 Series Voltage Regulators

The LM78XX series of three-terminal positive regulators is available in the TO-220 package and with several fixed output voltages, making them useful in a wide range of applications. Each type employs internal current limiting, thermal shut-down, and safe operating area protection. 78xx 79xx voltage regulators

7805 is popular for Embedded Systems and 7905 is sometimes used for the Dual Supply needs in such Microcontroller cards with Mixed Design sub-sections like A/D or Opamps.

LM723 Power Electronics Workhorse

This is another versatile and flexible chip. I could design current sources, voltage to current transmitters, level translation and many more. You can think of applications beyond the Power Electronics Scope with this. Input voltage up to 40V, Output voltage adjustable from 2 to 37V, Output current to 150mA without external pass transistor and Adjustable current limiting.

"The circuit provides internal current limiting. When the output current exceeds 150mA an external NPN or PNP pass element may be used. Provisions are made for adjustable current limiting and remote shutdown."
